A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) lets you set aside pre-tax dollars from your paycheck to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses for you, your spouse, and your dependents. Semgrep offers two types of FSA accounts, both administered through Rippling.
Important: If you are enrolled in the Cigna HDHP HSA or Kaiser HDHP HSA plan, you are not eligible for the Health Care FSA. You may, however, enroll in the Dependent Care FSA.
Health Care FSA
Use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible medical, dental, and vision expenses throughout the plan year.
What It Covers
- Medical and dental copays and deductibles
- Prescription medications
- Vision expenses such as contacts, glasses, and eye exams
- Many other IRS-eligible health care expenses
How It Works
- A debit card is issued for convenient payment at the point of service
- Your full elected amount is available on the first day of the plan year, regardless of how much you have contributed so far
- 2026 IRS Annual Limit: $3,400
- Carryover: Up to $680 of unused funds rolls over to the next plan year. Any balance above $680 at year end is forfeited.
Dependent Care FSA
Use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible dependent care expenses while you and your spouse work, look for work, or attend school full-time.
What It Covers
- Daycare and childcare centers
- Before and after school care
- Summer day camps
- Care for an elderly or disabled dependent
How It Works
- No debit card is issued — reimbursement is pay-as-you-go, limited to the amount already deducted from your paycheck
- Submit claims to be reimbursed based on your accumulated contributions
- 2026 IRS Annual Limit: $7,500
- No carryover — any unused balance at year end is forfeited
Key Dates
- New employees: Must elect within 30 days of start date; coverage effective first of the month on or after hire date
- Qualifying life event changes: Must be submitted within 30 days of the event; effective first of the month following the event
- Plan year: January 1 – December 31, 2026
